Adult Residential Programs

Residential stays are individualized based on the needs of each client. Stays can vary from weeks to months. Services are gender-specific. Separate living quarters, treatment groups, meals and recreational activities for men and women facilitate the in-depth exploration of issues relevant to recovery.

We offer family counseling and culture-specific groups in which treatment issues are addressed in the context of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and/or cognitive abilities.

For more information, contact Andrea Quicksall at (503) 535-1172 or Jose Garcia at (503) 535-1180.

Adult Residential Services FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How do I get into residential treatment?

There are several ways to enroll in treatment. You may self refer or be referred by a family member, a parole officer, Department of Human Services, Drug court, your doctor or another referral agency.

How long will I be in residential?

Length of stay in residential treatment varies from person to person. Your personal counselor will work with you to develop a plan that will address your individual treatment needs.

Can you tell me more about what to expect in residential treatment?

Clients spend 40 plus hours in residential and outpatient treatment groups and classes each week. Each client is assigned his/her own counselor who meets with him/her for one on one therapy sessions during the week. In addition, each client is assigned a “Core Group”. The Core Groups are intimate (8 to 10 clients) groups that are facilitated by a counselor and meet twice a week to allow clients to process with one another by hearing from peers who are suffering from the disease of addiction and learning how to gain support from others who are in recovery.

Clients receive five hours of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) classes each week. DBT is especially good for people who suffer from the disease of addiction because it helps with out-of-control emotions and destructive behaviors common in people with substance abuse disorders. In addition to the five hours of classes, clients receive coaching on their personal use of the DBT skills from the treatment staff while they are living in the therapeutic community.

Through the residential program, clients learn about their relapse patterns; pain management; how to identify and change the behaviors that have caused their substance abuse disorder; meditation practices; and 12-Step support groups. Clients experience the therapeutic community of recovery while in residential treatment.

Can my family visit me?

Family support and involvement is strongly encouraged in your treatment. Families are encouraged to participate in family therapy services through De Paul which include sessions with family members during residential treatment.

Can I smoke while in residential treatment?

Clients are allowed seven scheduled smoke breaks daily. Smoking is not permitted inside the building; there are designated smoking areas outside.

When can I get passes?

Passes are determined by your length of stay, stage in treatment and clinical team approval.

Can I have my cell phone?

Cell phones and other electronics are not allowed in treatment.

Do we get to go on outings?

Yes, there are opportunities for outings. Activites often include walks, running, park outings, and community events.

Can I make phone calls?

Yes, you are allowed to make daily phone calls.

What if I change my mind?

If you decide residential treatment is not right for you, your counselor will work with you, your familiy and/or referent on a plan for continuing in De Paul outpatient services.
