DUII PROGRAM

This information has been updated as of 12/28/11 and goes into effect on 1/01/2012.

Call (503) 535-1151 for information.

The DUII program at DP is designed to fit with the busy schedules of our clients. Our counselors work with clients to ensure that the DUII program is relevant, useful, and interesting.

“I really liked how the group meetings were set up. These sessions were focused on how to be a better me, which I thought was a great way to approach a program like this”- former DUII client

“I have enjoyed every single encounter with my counselors as well as the other members of my group and have left feeling good with a positive outlook”- former DUII client

96% of DP’s DUII clients report that they are satisfied with their overall quality of care. 95% say they would recommend DP’s services to others who may need them.

The DUII program consists of attending 18 consecutive weeks of groups (frequency varies for each client), monthly individual sessions, random drug tests, and weekly participation in community support groups. Oregon Administrative Rules require DUII clients to remain abstinent from alcohol and drugs (including prescription drugs that have not been prescribed) for a year following their court date and at least the last 90 days of the program.

FAQ (frequently asked questions)

How much does the DUII Program cost?
We have a sliding fee scale and keep our rates very competitive in keeping up with our mission to provide treatment at the most affordable prices. We accept most insurance plans. Please contact our billing specialist at (503) 535-1198 for more information about insurance coverage.

The fees are determined based on verifiable income, which means that in order to qualify for a Tier 1 or 2 payment schedule, you must bring one of the following documents to your first appointment:  pay stub, unemployment benefits, most recent W2, Student Financial Aid statement, or a print out of your last year earnings from the Social Security office. See the chart below for pricing details.

Beginning February 1, 2012 our Outpatient Pricing Schedule will be as follows:

How long does the DUII Program take?

The basic DUII program consists of attending 18 consecutive weeks of groups (frequency varies for each client), monthly individual sessions, multiple random drug tests, and weekly participation in community support groups.  If relapse/use occurs it will be reported to the referent and the frequency of group attendance and UAs (urine tests) may be increased. At a minimum, the last 90 days in the program need documented and self-reported abstinence.

Do I have to do drug tests during the Program?

Yes, we do observed alcohol and drug urine tests throughout the program. Tests are randomized by our color code system, in which each client calls Monday through Friday throughout the treatment duration.  We use two types of tests every time we do a drug test. One is the regular test, which detects drugs and alcohol and the other one is the regular test plus the EtG test, which is more sensitive to alcohol.

Please refrain from using any products that contain alcohol because it can cause the urine tests to come back positive and we would have to do a confirmation test. It is the client’s responsibility to read labels and be aware of what is being consumed. Test results cannot make a distinction between alcoholic beverages and other products containing alcohol and any positive UA result will be regarded as such. Some products to avoid include: mouthwash (Listerine Fresh Burst, Cepacol, Scope, Plax and others – look at the label), over the counter cold and flu medication, hand sanitizers (Purell, Germ X), and some foods (Balsamic vinegar, vanilla extract, non-alcoholic beer, food cooked with alcohol).

Avoid any medication containing pseudoephedrine (Sudafed, Robitussin, Nyquil, Dayquil, Vicks formula among others – look at the label) which will show positive for amphetamines and will be treated as a positive UA.

Do not eat foods containing poppy seeds, which can show up positive for opiates and will be treated as a positive UA.

Please always provide your counselor with all prescription information from the pharmacy.  ANY POSITIVE UA THAT IS NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO AN APPROVED PRESCRIPTION MEDICATION WILL RESULT IN A CONFIRMATION TEST ($35 FEE). Based on the confirmation test results we will decide what the best course of treatment will be. To verify this we ask clients to provide information for all prescriptions, which can be provided by your pharmacist, and for a release of information to coordinate care with your doctor/prescriber.

Does De Paul offer all Levels of Care (DUII, DUII education only, outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential)?

Yes, De Paul offers DUII treatment, DUII Information Only, Level I Outpatient treatment (one to three times a week), Level II Intensive Outpatient treatment (three or more times a week), and Residential treatment. De Paul Treatment Centers provides additional services provided by our master’s level counselors who can also address mental health issues. Evidence shows that participation in treatment services with family or other support persons can dramatically improve success rates. De Paul offers an array of family services for clients and their identified support persons.

Can I do my DUII Program at De Paul if my DUII was out of state?

Out of state DUII clients are accepted at our program and will complete treatment at the discretion of their Primary Counselors based upon the requirements of their out of state DUII evaluators, IN ADDITION TO the De Paul program requirements. Prior to or at the start of treatment, clients need to submit copies of the out of state DUII paperwork and requirements so De Paul staff can help our clients be successful in fulfilling all program requirements. Some clients will be referred to an Alcohol and Drug Evaluation Specialist before they can start the program.

What if I only need a DMV certificate?

In some cases the DUII offense has expired with the court system and the client only needs a DMV certificate. The treatment program requirements for the DMV-only clients are the same (see descriptions above and below).  We require the client (at the time of assessment) to submit a copy of the DMV document that includes: the arrest date, conviction date(s), and ODL number. This can be done by calling the DMV to order a copy of your driving record. If you have difficulty with this process you can call us to provide you more information on how to obtain your records.

What do I have to do to complete successfully the basic elements of the DUII program?

  • Complete a minimum of 18 consecutive weeks of group (keep regular attendance)
  • Avoid having have more than two unexcused absences (two or more in succession may restart program)
  • Complete a minimum of 4 individual sessions
  • End the program with at least 90 days of consecutively clean EtG UAs (and self-reported sobriety)
  • Turn in proof of attendance to a minimum of 18 community support groups
  • Pay for all of your service fees prior to completion date

How do I get started?

Clients who had a DUII in the State of Oregon need a DUII evaluation from an Alcohol and Drug Evaluation Specialist (ADES). Normally the Alcohol and Drug Evaluation Specialist (ADES) faxes the document within 1-2 days of the ADES evaluation.  ADES allows 30 days for clients to enroll in treatment from the date of their evaluation.  When we receive the referral from ADES we will send you a Welcome Letter with information about getting started in our program.

If you received a DUII outside of Oregon, we will need a copy of your court paperwork with an outline of your requirements and your DMV driving record.

We have two primary locations where outpatient treatment services are available: Downtown Portland and Hillsboro. After the evaluation has been faxed or mailed to De Paul by the ADES, the client can call either the Downtown Portland office at 503-535-1151 or the Hillsboro office at 503-693-3104 to schedule the assessment appointment. We also offer DUII groups at NE 43rd and Killingsworth.
