13th Annual Freedom Award Luncheon
Honoring Reed College President John Kroger: The 13th Annual Freedom Award to benefit the De Paul Youth & Family Center will be held in September to coincide with SAMHSA's National Recovery Month. Please join us on September 13th, 2012 from 11:30-1:00 PM at The Governor Hotel, Heritage Ballroom.

“The Freedom Award is given to people who share their recovery in a public way and who dedicate time, resources, and energy to helping people struggling with addictions. Their lives in recovery serve as an inspiration to all of us. Every dollar raised at this important luncheon is used to help youth struggling with a substance use disorder achieve healthy, productive lives.”

This year's recipient is Reed College President John Kroger, who is a long time advocate for improving access to alcohol and drug prevention and treatment.

Don't miss your chance to help youth who struggle with drugs and alcohol by supporting De Paul at the 13th Annual Freedom Award Luncheon. For more information contact development@depaultreatmentcenters.org or go to www.bit.ly/DPFreedomAward.

"Art with Heart" Art Walk on September 6th, 2012: On Thursday, September 6th, De Paul will be participating in the "Art with Heart" event in the Pearl. "Art with Heart" is a collaborative art initiative hosted by nonprofit organizations in the Old Town, Chinatown, Pearl, and Downtown Portland districts. We will be displaying artwork that was made by our clients (both adolescent and adult) at two of our partners' locations. The Art Walk, which coincides with First Thursday, will take place from 6-9 PM.

Recovery Month Candlelight Vigil- September 27, 2012: Join us in honoring those in recovery and remembering those who have been lost to addiction at the 2nd Annual Candlelight Vigil.  De Paul believes the event will help to educate the public on the effectiveness of treatment and the possibility of recovery, and will weaken the stigma surrounding substance use disorders and addiction. The event is sponsored in part by Central City Concern and is open to anyone in the community. The Vigil will be held in Pioneer Courthouse Square on September 27 from 7:30 to 8:30 PM.

Mimosa Studios - Paint Your Pottery Studio celebrated their 10th anniversary on November 5th & 6th and donated 25% of the proceeds to the De Paul Youth & Family Center. We are so grateful to have a wonderful community partner. Check them out online www.mimosa-studios.com or better yet, visit their studio 1718 NE Alberta St. Click here for their flyer.

Race for the Roses Provides Inspiration for Those in Treatment: On Sunday, April 3, Christophe Berteau-Pavy, a member of the Red Lizards Running Club, met Josh and Doug in downtown Portland at 6 AM. The trio took the Max to the Oregon Convention Center, did a brief warm up run and watched the start of the 10K race. A few minutes later it was their turn. They joined a group of 1500 runners to take part in the Race for the Roses 5K.

While this scenario sounds like it could be just another Sunday race day for many people, the 5K was a window to new possibilities for Josh and Doug. They are both participating in residential drug and alcohol treatment at De Paul Treatment Centers (DP) and running an organized race is something neither had considered before a few months ago....
